RAE1

Description

The RAE1 (ribonucleic acid export 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

RAE1 is a protein encoded by the RAE1 gene in humans. It is involved in RNA export, as mutations in its yeast homologs lead to the accumulation of poly(A)-containing mRNA in the nucleus. RAE1 contains four WD40 motifs and localizes to distinct foci in the nucleoplasm, the nuclear rim, and meshwork-like structures in the cytoplasm. It is thought to be involved in nucleocytoplasmic transport and in attaching cytoplasmic mRNPs to the cytoskeleton, either directly or indirectly. Multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. RAE1 interacts with NUP98.

Acts as a mRNA export factor involved in nucleocytoplasmic transport (PubMed:33849972, PubMed:20498086). Plays a role in mitotic bipolar spindle formation (PubMed:17172455). May function in attaching cytoplasmic mRNPs to the cytoskeleton both directly or indirectly (PubMed:17172455).

RAE1 is also known as Gle2, MIG14, MRNP41, Mnrp41, dJ481F12.3, dJ800J21.1.
