The RAB8B (RAB8B, member RAS oncogene family) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.
Ras-related protein Rab-8B is a protein that in humans is encoded by the RAB8B gene.
RAB8B, a small GTPase, plays a crucial role in regulating intracellular membrane trafficking. It cycles between an inactive GDP-bound state and an active GTP-bound state, which recruits effector proteins to membranes. These effectors are involved in various processes related to vesicle formation, movement, tethering, and fusion. RAB8B is involved in polarized vesicular trafficking and neurotransmitter release. It may also play a role in cell junction dynamics in Sertoli cells and the export of newly synthesized proteins via an endososomal route involving RAB8B, RAB10, and RAB11.
