RAB29

Description

The RAB29 (RAB29, member RAS oncogene family) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

RAB29, also known as Rab-7L1 or Ras-related protein Rab-29, is a small GTPase involved in regulating vesicle trafficking. It is essential for maintaining the integrity of the endosome-trans-Golgi network structure. In collaboration with LRRK2, it plays a role in the retrograde trafficking pathway, facilitating the recycling of proteins like mannose 6 phosphate receptor (M6PR) between lysosomes and the Golgi apparatus through a retromer-dependent mechanism. RAB29 recruits LRRK2 to the Golgi complex, stimulating its kinase activity. It regulates neuronal process morphology in the central nervous system. Additionally, RAB29 may participate in the formation of typhoid toxin transport intermediates during Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi infection of epithelial cells.

RAB29 is also known as RAB7L, RAB7L1.
