The RAB20 (RAB20, member RAS oncogene family) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.
RAB20 is involved in the process of endocytosis and recycling of molecules at the apical surface of cells. It plays a crucial role in the maturation and acidification of phagosomes, which are cellular compartments that engulf pathogens like Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. RAB20 also participates in the fusion of phagosomes with lysosomes, which are cellular organelles responsible for breaking down engulfed materials.
