RAB11FIP1

Description

The RAB11FIP1 (RAB11 family interacting protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

RAB11FIP1, also known as Rab-coupling protein, is a protein encoded by the RAB11FIP1 gene in humans. It is part of the large Rab GTPase family, which regulates the formation, targeting, and fusion of intracellular transport vesicles. RAB11FIP1 interacts with and regulates Rab GTPases. It has been identified as a novel protein involved in the regulation of adiponectin trafficking and release from the adipocyte. Increased RAB11FIP1 expression, correlated with higher BMI in humans, inhibits adiponectin release from adipocytes, potentially contributing to lower circulating levels of adiponectin observed in obese populations.

RAB11FIP1 is a Rab11 effector protein that participates in the endosomal recycling process. It also plays a role in regulating membrane trafficking along the phagocytic pathway and in phagocytosis.

RAB11FIP1 is also known as NOEL1A, RCP, rab11-FIP1.
