PYHIN1

Description

The PYHIN1 (pyrin and HIN domain family member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

PYHIN1 is a key player in suppressing tumor growth in breast cancer cells. It does this by promoting the breakdown of two proteins: MDM2 and HDAC1. By degrading MDM2, PYHIN1 helps stabilize the tumor suppressor protein p53/TP53, which is crucial for controlling cell growth and preventing cancer. Additionally, PYHIN1's degradation of HDAC1 leads to increased expression of maspin, a protein that inhibits the spread of cancer cells. Together, these actions of PYHIN1 help to prevent breast cancer cells from growing and invading surrounding tissues.

PYHIN1 is also known as IFIX.
