PTPN21

Description

The PTPN21 (protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 21) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

PTPN21 is a gene that encodes for an enzyme, Tyrosine-protein phosphatase non-receptor type 21. This enzyme belongs to the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family, which are known to be signaling molecules involved in various cellular processes, including cell growth, differentiation, the mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation. The PTPN21 protein has an N-terminal domain similar to cytoskeletal-associated proteins such as band 4.1, ezrin, merlin, and radixin. PTPN21 specifically interacts with BMX/ETK, a member of the Tec tyrosine kinase family, characterized by a multimodular structure including PH, SH3, and SH2 domains. This interaction leads to increased activation of STAT3, but not STAT2 kinase. Studies on mice suggest that PTPN21 may play a role in liver regeneration and spermatogenesis.

PTPN21 is also known as PTPD1, PTPRL10.
