PTPN13

Description

The PTPN13 (protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 13) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

PTPN13 is a human gene encoding tyrosine-protein phosphatase non-receptor type 13, a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs regulate various cellular processes like cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation. PTPN13 is a large protein with a PTP domain at its C-terminus and multiple noncatalytic domains, including a band 4.1 superfamily domain, five PDZ domains, and a leucine zipper motif. It interacts with and dephosphorylates Fas receptor and IkappaBalpha through its PDZ domains, suggesting its role in Fas-mediated programmed cell death. PTPN13 also interacts with GTPase-activating protein, potentially regulating the Rho signaling pathway. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct proteins have been reported. PTPN13 interacts with PKN2.

PTPN13 is a tyrosine phosphatase that plays a role in regulating apoptosis and cell signaling. It inhibits FAS-induced apoptosis and NGFR-mediated pro-apoptotic signaling. PTPN13 may also regulate phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling by dephosphorylating PIK3R2.

PTPN13 is also known as FAP-1, PNP1, PTP-BAS, PTP-BL, PTP1E, PTPL1, PTPLE, hPTP1E.
