PTPMT1

Description

The PTPMT1 (protein tyrosine phosphatase mitochondrial 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Protein tyrosine phosphatase, mitochondrial 1 is a protein in humans that is primarily coded by the gene PTPMT1 gene.

PTPMT1 is a lipid phosphatase that dephosphorylates phosphatidylglycerophosphate (PGP) to phosphatidylglycerol (PG), a key step in cardiolipin synthesis. Cardiolipin is a mitochondrial phospholipid essential for membrane integrity and organelle function. PTPMT1 also exhibits phosphatase activity towards phosphoprotein substrates, specifically dephosphorylating mitochondrial proteins, thereby contributing to ATP production. It likely prefers substrates phosphorylated on Ser/Thr residues over Tyr residues. PTPMT1 may be involved in regulating insulin secretion in pancreatic beta cells. It may also prevent intrinsic apoptosis by regulating mitochondrial membrane integrity. Interactions with STYXL1 inhibit PTPMT1's catalytic activity.

PTPMT1 is also known as DUSP23, MOSP, PLIP, PNAS-129.
