PTGFRN
Description
The PTGFRN (prostaglandin F2 receptor inhibitor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
Prostaglandin F2 receptor negative regulator is a protein that in humans is encoded by the PTGFRN gene. PTGFRN has also been designated as CD315 (cluster of differentiation 315). PTGFRN has been shown to interact with CD9 and CD81.
PTGFRN inhibits the binding of prostaglandin F2-alpha (PGF2-alpha) to its specific FP receptor by reducing the number of receptors, rather than altering the strength of their interaction. This suggests PTGFRN might directly influence the availability of FP receptors. Evidence also indicates that PTGFRN could interact functionally with the PGF2-alpha receptor, though this requires further investigation. In muscle cells, PTGFRN forms a complex with CD9 and CD81, two tetraspanin proteins. This complex plays a role in preventing the fusion of muscle cells during muscle regeneration.
