PTBP2

Description

The PTBP2 (polypyrimidine tract binding protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

PTBP2, or polypyrimidine tract binding protein 2, is a protein encoded by the PTBP2 gene in humans. It binds to the intronic cluster of RNA regulatory elements, known as downstream control sequence (DCS), and plays a role in controlling the assembly of other splicing-regulatory proteins. PTBP2 is closely related to the polypyrimidine tract-binding protein PTBP1, but its expression is predominantly found in the brain.

PTBP2 is an RNA-binding protein that binds to intronic polypyrimidine tracts, leading to the suppression of exon splicing. It can also block the ability of NOVA1 to promote exon selection in a tissue-specific way. Beyond its role in pre-mRNA splicing, PTBP2 also participates in regulating translation.

PTBP2 is also known as PTBLP, brPTB, nPTB.
