PSMG1

Description

The PSMG1 (proteasome assembly chaperone 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

Proteasome assembly chaperone 1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the PSMG1 gene.

PSMG1, in partnership with PSMG2, acts as a chaperone protein facilitating the assembly of the 20S proteasome. This heterodimer, formed by PSMG1 and PSMG2, binds to the PSMA5 and PSMA7 subunits of the proteasome. It then promotes the assembly of proteasome alpha subunits into the heteroheptameric alpha ring, effectively preventing the dimerization of these rings.

PSMG1 is also known as C21LRP, DSCR2, LRPC21, PAC-1, PAC1.
