PRSS3

Description

The PRSS3 (serine protease 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

The PRSS3 gene encodes a trypsinogen, a member of the trypsin family of serine proteases. This enzyme is expressed in the brain and pancreas. It is resistant to common trypsin inhibitors and is active on peptide linkages involving the carboxyl group of lysine or arginine. The gene is located on chromosome 9 and has four transcript variants that encode different isoforms.

PRSS3 is a digestive protease that cleaves proteins preferentially after an Arg residue. It exhibits proteolytic activity towards Kunitz-type trypsin inhibitors, which are naturally occurring proteins that regulate trypsin activity.

PRSS3 is also known as MTG, PRSS4, T9, TRY3, TRY4.
