PRSS16

Description

The PRSS16 (serine protease 16) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

The PRSS16 gene encodes a serine protease exclusively expressed in the thymus. This protease is believed to be involved in the alternative antigen presentation pathway used by cortical thymic epithelial cells during the positive selection of T cells. The gene resides within the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6, close to the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I region. An additional transcript variant has been identified, but its full length remains undetermined.

PRSS16 is also known as TSSP.
