PROK1

Description

The PROK1 (prokineticin 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

Prokineticin-1 (PROK1) is a protein that potently contracts gastrointestinal (GI) smooth muscle. It induces proliferation, migration, and fenestration (the formation of membrane discontinuities) in capillary endothelial cells derived from endocrine glands. PROK1 has little or no effect on a variety of other endothelial and non-endothelial cell types. It induces proliferation and differentiation, but not migration, of enteric neural crest cells. PROK1 directly influences neuroblastoma progression by promoting the proliferation and migration of neuroblastoma cells. It positively regulates PTGS2 expression and prostaglandin synthesis. PROK1 may play a role in placentation and normal and pathological testis angiogenesis.

PROK1 is also known as EGVEGF, PK1, PRK1.
