PRKX

Description

The PRKX (protein kinase cAMP-dependent X-linked catalytic subunit) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

PRKX (Protein kinase, X-linked) is a gene encoding a serine/threonine protein kinase that shares similarity with the catalytic subunit of cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinases. This protein is regulated during development and may be involved in renal epithelial morphogenesis. It might also play a role in macrophage and granulocyte maturation. Abnormal recombination between PRKX and a related pseudogene on chromosome Y is a common cause of sex reversal disorder in XX males and XY females. Pseudogenes of PRKX are found on chromosomes X, 15, and Y. The mouse ortholog of PRKX, Prkx, is also known as Pkare.

PRKX is a serine/threonine protein kinase that is regulated by and mediates cAMP signaling in cells. It acts through phosphorylation of downstream targets, including CREB, SMAD6, and PKD1, and has multiple functions in cellular differentiation and epithelial morphogenesis. PRKX regulates myeloid cell differentiation through SMAD6 phosphorylation. It is involved in nephrogenesis by stimulating renal epithelial cell migration and tubulogenesis. Additionally, PRKX plays a role in angiogenesis by stimulating endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and vascular-like structure formation.

PRKX is also known as PKX1.
