Primaquine

Description

Primaquine is an antimalaria drug used to prevent and treat malaria, particularly the dangerous P. vivax and P. ovale species. It works by attacking the parasite‘s ability to reproduce, effectively stopping the spread of the infection within the body. Unlike other antimalarials, primaquine also targets dormant parasite forms (hypnozoites) in the liver, preventing relapse of malaria. However, its use can be limited by its potential side effects, primarily hemolytic anemia in individuals with certain genetic conditions.
