Pravastatin
Description
Pravastatin is a medication belonging to the statin class of drugs, primarily prescribed to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. It works by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which is involved in the production of cholesterol in the liver. By reducing cholesterol synthesis, pravastatin effectively lowers the levels of LDL (‘bad‘) cholesterol, while potentially raising HDL (‘good‘) cholesterol. This action contributes to a reduced risk of heart disease and stroke, making pravastatin a valuable tool for cardiovascular health management.
