PPP1R3B

Description

The PPP1R3B (protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit 3B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

PPP1R3B acts as a glycogen-targeting subunit for phosphatase PP1, mediating its interaction with enzymes involved in glycogen metabolism and regulating its activity. It slows down the dephosphorylation (inactivation) of glycogen phosphorylase by PP1 and accelerates the activation of glycogen synthase, effectively limiting glycogen breakdown. PPP1R3B's activity is inhibited by PYGL, leading to a decrease in PP1's ability to regulate both glycogen synthase and glycogen phosphorylase. When overexpressed in hepatocytes, PPP1R3B significantly boosts both basal and insulin-stimulated glycogen synthesis.

PPP1R3B is also known as GL, PPP1R4, PTG.
