PPIL1

Description

The PPIL1 (peptidylprolyl isomerase like 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

PPIL1, encoded by the PPIL1 gene, is a member of the cyclophilin family of peptidylprolyl isomerases (PPIases). Cyclophilins are highly conserved and ubiquitous, playing essential roles in protein folding, immunosuppression, and HIV-1 infection. Due to its similarity to other PPIases, PPIL1 is thought to accelerate protein folding and catalyze the cis-trans isomerization of proline imidic peptide bonds in oligopeptides.

PPIL1 is involved in pre-mRNA splicing as a component of the spliceosome. It accelerates protein folding and catalyzes the cis-trans isomerization of proline imidic peptide bonds in oligopeptides. PPIL1 also catalyzes prolyl peptide bond isomerization in CDC40/PRP17 and plays a crucial role in embryonic brain development, independent of its isomerase activity.

PPIL1 is also known as CGI-124, CYPL1, PCH14, PPIase, hCyPX.
