PPARGC1B

Description

The PPARGC1B (PPARG coactivator 1 beta) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-beta (PPARGC1B) is a protein encoded by the PPARGC1B gene in humans. It acts as a coactivator, enhancing the activity of other proteins involved in cellular processes.

PPARGC1B acts as a stimulator of transcription factors and nuclear receptors, enhancing the activity of estrogen receptor alpha, nuclear respiratory factor 1 (NRF1), and the glucocorticoid receptor in the presence of glucocorticoids. Its overexpression contributes to increased basal oxygen consumption and mitochondrial number, suggesting a role in constitutive non-adrenergic-mediated mitochondrial biogenesis. PPARGC1B may also be involved in fat oxidation, non-oxidative glucose metabolism, and the regulation of energy expenditure. In skeletal muscle, it induces the expression of PERM1 in an ESRRA-dependent manner.

PPARGC1B is also known as ERRL1, PERC, PGC-1(beta), PGC1B.
