Description
The POLR3F (RNA polymerase III subunit F) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.
The POLR3F gene encodes the RPC6 protein, a subunit of RNA polymerase III (Pol III). Pol III is responsible for transcribing 5S ribosomal RNA and tRNA genes. RPC6 binds to TFIIIB90 and TBP, both subunits of RNA polymerase III transcription initiation factor IIIB (TFIIIB). Unlike most other Pol III subunits, RPC6 is unique to this polymerase.
The POLR3F gene encodes a subunit of RNA polymerase III (Pol III), which is a key enzyme involved in the transcription of various small non-coding RNAs, including 5S rRNA, snRNAs, tRNAs, and miRNAs. Pol III plays a vital role in sensing and limiting infections by intracellular bacteria and DNA viruses, including varicella zoster virus. It acts as a nuclear and cytosolic DNA sensor, detecting AT-rich DNA and participating in the innate immune response. Pol III can sense non-self dsDNA, transcribing it into dsRNA, which then triggers the production of type I interferon and NF-kappa-B through the RIG-I pathway, leading to an antiviral response.
