PMM1

Description

The PMM1 (phosphomannomutase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

Phosphomannomutase 1 is an enzyme encoded by the PMM1 gene in humans. It catalyzes the conversion of D-mannose 6-phosphate to D-mannose 1-phosphate, a substrate for GDP-mannose synthesis. GDP-mannose is used to synthesize dolichol-phosphate-mannose, which is crucial for N-linked glycosylation and secretion of glycoproteins, as well as for the synthesis of Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchored proteins. This enzyme has been found in the venom of the wasp species Polistes major major.

PMM1 is also known as PMM 1, PMMH-22, Sec53.
