PMAIP1
Description
The PMAIP1 (phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate-induced protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 18.
PMAIP1 promotes apoptosis by activating caspases and inducing mitochondrial membrane changes, leading to the release of apoptogenic proteins. It also contributes to p53-dependent apoptosis following radiation exposure. PMAIP1 promotes the proteasomal degradation of MCL1, a protein that inhibits apoptosis. Additionally, PMAIP1 competes with BAK1 and BIM/BCL2L11 for binding to MCL1, potentially displacing these proteins and promoting apoptosis.
PMAIP1 is also known as APR, NOXA.
