PLA2G4F

Description

The PLA2G4F (phospholipase A2 group IVF) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

PLA2G4F, also known as cytosolic phospholipase A2 zeta (cPLA2-zeta), is an enzyme with calcium-dependent phospholipase and lysophospholipase activities. It plays a role in membrane lipid remodeling and biosynthesis of lipid mediators, particularly by hydrolyzing the ester bond of the fatty acyl group attached at the sn-2 position of phospholipids. This action, known as phospholipase A2 activity, is crucial for the release of arachidonic acid from membrane phospholipids, which serves as a precursor for the production of eicosanoids. Notably, in myocardial mitochondria, PLA2G4F is involved in the release of arachidonate that is utilized for the formation of cardioprotective eicosanoids, specifically epoxyeicosatrienoates (EETs).

PLA2G4F is also known as PLA2G4FZ.
