PKP4

Description

The PKP4 (plakophilin 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

Plakophilin-4 is a protein encoded by the PKP4 gene in humans. It belongs to the p120(ctn)/plakophilin subfamily of Armadillo-like proteins, characterized by a series of armadillo repeats. These proteins are involved in cell-cell adhesion and may regulate junctional plaque organization and cadherin function. PKP4 is thought to be a component of desmosomal plaques and other adhesion plaques. Multiple transcript variants have been found for this gene, but only two have been fully described, encoding distinct isoforms. PKP4 has been shown to interact with Erbin, PDZD2, and PSEN1.

PKP4 regulates Rho activity during cytokinesis, the process of cell division. It may also play a role in junctional plaques, which are structures that connect cells together.

PKP4 is also known as p0071.
