PKIB

Description

The PKIB (cAMP-dependent protein kinase inhibitor beta) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

The human PKIB gene encodes cAMP-dependent protein kinase inhibitor beta, a protein belonging to the cAMP-dependent protein kinase inhibitor family. Similar proteins in rats interact with the catalytic subunit of cAMP-dependent protein kinase and act as competitive inhibitors. Multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.

PKIB protein acts as a highly effective competitive inhibitor of cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) activity. It binds to the catalytic subunit of PKA after cAMP triggers the separation of regulatory chains from the catalytic subunit.

PKIB is also known as PRKACN2.
