PHLDA3

Description

The PHLDA3 (pleckstrin homology like domain family A member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

PHLDA3 acts as a tumor suppressor by inhibiting the activity of AKT1, a key signaling protein involved in cell growth and survival. PHLDA3 achieves this by preventing AKT1 from binding to cell membranes, thus blocking its activation and translocation to the cell membrane. This repression of AKT1 activity contributes to the p53-dependent process of programmed cell death (apoptosis). The direct transcriptional regulation of PHLDA3 by p53 provides a mechanism for p53's negative control of AKT1.

PHLDA3 is also known as TIH1.
