PHC3

Description

The PHC3 (polyhomeotic homolog 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

Polyhomeotic-like protein 3 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the PHC3 gene.

PHC3 is part of a Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein complex called PRC1-like. This complex plays a crucial role in maintaining the repressed state of many genes, including Hox genes, during development. It achieves this by modifying chromatin through remodeling and histone modifications. Specifically, PRC1 mediates the monoubiquitination of histone H2A at lysine 119, a modification that alters the chromatin's ability to express genes.

PHC3 is also known as EDR3, HPH3.
