PGGT1B

Description

The PGGT1B (protein geranylgeranyltransferase type I subunit beta) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

The PGGT1B protein acts as an enzyme that attaches a geranyl-geranyl group to cysteine residues within specific proteins. This attachment occurs at the fourth position from the C-terminus of these proteins, provided they have the specific sequence Cys-aliphatic-aliphatic-X at their tail end. Several important proteins serve as substrates for this process, including RAC1, RAC2, RAP1A, and RAP1B.

PGGT1B is also known as BGGI, GGTI.
