PFKFB3

Description

The PFKFB3 (6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-biphosphatase 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

PFKFB3 is a gene located on chromosome 10 that encodes the 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-biphosphatase 3 enzyme. It is one of four known tissue-specific PFKFB isoenzymes. The PFKFB3 gene spans 32.5kb and contains 19 exons, of which 15 are regularly expressed. Alternative splicing generates six different isoforms, termed UBI2K1 to UBI2K6. These isoforms are categorized as either 'inducible' or 'ubiquitous'. The inducible isoform, iPFK2, is known to be upregulated under hypoxic conditions. The PFKFB3 promoter contains various binding sites, including those for Sp-1, AP-2, E-box, NF-1, and progesterone response elements.

PFKFB3 is also known as IPFK2, PFK2, iPFK-2.
