PFDN4

Description

The PFDN4 (prefoldin subunit 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

Prefoldin subunit 4 is a protein encoded by the PFDN4 gene in humans. It belongs to the prefoldin beta subunit family and is a component of the prefoldin complex, a molecular chaperone. Prefoldin stabilizes newly synthesized polypeptides, assisting in their proper folding. This complex consists of two alpha and four beta subunits, forming a double beta barrel structure with protruding coiled-coils.

Prefoldin subunit 4 (PFDN4) specifically binds to cytosolic chaperonin (c-CPN) and facilitates the transfer of target proteins to it. It interacts with nascent polypeptide chains, promoting their proper folding within a cellular environment where various pathways compete for non-native proteins.

PFDN4 is also known as C1, PFD4.
