PEMT

Description

The PEMT (phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

PEMT may refer to:

PEMT catalyzes the three sequential steps of the methylation pathway for the biosynthesis of phosphatidylcholine, a crucial component of cell membranes. It uses S-adenosylmethionine as the methyl donor to convert phosphatidylethanolamine to phosphatidylcholine, producing S-adenosylhomocysteine in each step. This pathway is responsible for approximately 30% of hepatic phosphatidylcholine production.

PEMT is also known as PEAMT, PEMPT, PEMT2, PLMT, PNMT.
