Peginterferonalpha
Description
The peginterferon alpha gene encodes a protein that is a type I interferon, a class of proteins that play a crucial role in the innate immune response. Interferons are signaling molecules produced by cells in response to viral or bacterial infections. Peginterferon alpha is a pegylated form of interferon alpha, meaning it has been chemically modified with polyethylene glycol (PEG). This modification extends the half-life of the protein in the body, allowing for less frequent administration. Peginterferon alpha is used as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of various viral infections, autoimmune diseases, and cancers.
