Peginterferon2b

Description

The peginterferon alfa-2b gene (IFNA2B) encodes a type I interferon, a protein that plays a crucial role in the innate immune response. Interferons are signaling molecules that are produced by cells in response to viral infection, bacterial infection, or other stimuli. They act as antiviral agents, inhibiting viral replication and promoting the destruction of infected cells. Peginterferon alfa-2b is a long-acting form of interferon alfa-2b, which is produced by attaching a polyethylene glycol (PEG) molecule to the protein. This modification extends the half-life of the protein, allowing for less frequent administration. Peginterferon alfa-2b is used to treat a variety of conditions, including chronic hepatitis B and C, hairy cell leukemia, and certain types of cancer.
