PDCD5

Description

The PDCD5 (programmed cell death 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

PDCD5 is a protein involved in programmed cell death (apoptosis). It was originally identified as a protein that speeds up apoptosis. PDCD5 is encoded by the PDCD5 gene in humans. The protein is expressed in tumor cells during apoptosis, regardless of the specific stimulus triggering cell death. Before apoptosis begins, PDCD5 is found in both the nucleus and cytoplasm of the cell. Once apoptosis is initiated, PDCD5 levels increase, and it moves from the cytoplasm to the nucleus. While its exact function is still being investigated, PDCD5 is believed to play an early and universal role in the process of apoptosis.

PDCD5 is also known as TFAR19.
