PCSK7

Description

The PCSK7 (proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

PCSK7 (Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 7) is an enzyme encoded by the PCSK7 gene in humans. It belongs to the subtilisin-like proprotein convertase family, which are enzymes that process latent precursor proteins into their active forms. PCSK7 is a calcium-dependent serine endoprotease structurally similar to PACE and PACE4. It is localized to the trans-Golgi network, associated with membranes, and is not secreted. PCSK7 can process proalbumin and is thought to activate HIV envelope glycoproteins gp160 and gp140. The PCSK7 gene has been implicated in regulating the transcription of housekeeping genes. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified for this gene, but their full length sequences are not yet known. There is a duplicated and inverted segment downstream of the PCSK7 gene's location at 11q23-q24, containing nucleotides that match part of its 3' end.

PCSK7 is also known as LPC, PC7, PC8, SPC7.
