PCSK6

Description

The PCSK6 (proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 6 is a protease encoded by the PCSK6 gene located on chromosome 15 in humans. It is a calcium-dependent serine endoprotease that converts precursor proteins from their 'latent' to their 'active' form by cleaving them at specific sites. Active PCSK6 processes various substrates, including transforming growth factor β, pro-albumin, von Willebrand factor, and corin. It has been implicated in several important biological processes, including left/right asymmetry, brain structure, handedness, tumor progression, hemostasis, and cardiovascular diseases. During development, PCSK6 regulates embryogenesis by activating TGFβ-related differentiation factors such as BMP and Nodal.

PCSK6 is also known as PACE4, SPC4.
