PCSK5

Description

The PCSK5 (proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

PCSK5 is an enzyme encoded by the PCSK5 gene located on chromosome 9q21.3. Two alternatively spliced transcripts exist for this gene, but only one has a known full length. PCSK5 belongs to the subtilisin-like proprotein convertase family, which processes latent precursor proteins into their active forms. PCSK5 processes several integrin alpha subunits and is thought to process prorenin, pro-membrane type-1 matrix metalloproteinase, and HIV-1 glycoprotein gp160. Mutations in the PCSK5 gene have been linked to Currarino syndrome-like malformations. High PCSK5 expression has been associated with better survival rates in lung cancer patients.

PCSK5 is also known as PC5, PC6, PC6A, SPC6.
