PCMTD1

Description

The PCMTD1 (protein-L-isoaspartate (D-aspartate) O-methyltransferase domain containing 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

PCMTD1 acts as a substrate recognition component in an ECS (Elongin BC-CUL5-SOCS-box protein) E3 ubiquitin ligase complex. This complex plays a crucial role in targeting proteins for ubiquitination and subsequent degradation by the proteasome. PCMTD1 specifically binds to the methyltransferase cofactor S-adenosylmethionine (AdoMet) via its N-terminal AdoMet binding motif, but lacks methyltransferase activity. Notably, PCMTD1 may serve as a damage-specific E3 ubiquitin ligase adaptor protein, potentially offering an alternative pathway for maintaining modified proteins.
