PCDHB13

Description

The PCDHB13 (protocadherin beta 13) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

Protocadherin beta-13 (PCDHB13) is a protein encoded by the PCDHB13 gene in humans. This gene belongs to the protocadherin beta gene cluster located on chromosome five, which exhibits a unique genomic organization similar to B-cell and T-cell receptor gene clusters. The beta cluster comprises 16 genes and 3 pseudogenes, each encoding 6 extracellular cadherin domains and a distinct cytoplasmic tail. These domains interact homophilically to facilitate differential cell-cell connections. Unlike the alpha and gamma clusters, transcripts from these genes consist of a single large exon without shared 3' exons. These neural cadherin-like cell adhesion proteins are integral plasma membrane proteins, and while their specific functions remain unclear, they are likely crucial in establishing and maintaining specific neural connections.

PCDHB13 is also known as PCDH-BETA13.
