PCDHB10

Description

The PCDHB10 (protocadherin beta 10) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

PCDHB10, the gene responsible for encoding protocadherin beta-10, is part of the protocadherin beta gene cluster on chromosome five. This cluster, along with the alpha and gamma clusters, is organized similarly to B-cell and T-cell receptor gene clusters, exhibiting unique genomic features. The beta cluster comprises 16 genes and 3 pseudogenes, each generating proteins with 6 extracellular cadherin domains and a distinct cytoplasmic tail. These domains facilitate homophilic interactions, enabling specific cell-cell connections. Unlike the alpha and gamma clusters, PCDHB10 transcripts consist of a single large exon. These proteins are integral to the plasma membrane and likely play a crucial role in establishing and maintaining neural connections, although their precise functions remain unclear.

PCDHB10 is also known as PCDH-BETA10, PCHB10.
