PBX2

Description

The PBX2 (PBX homeobox 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

PBX2 is a protein encoded by the PBX2 gene in humans. It belongs to the TALE/PBX homeobox family and is found in all cells. Originally identified due to its similarity to a homeobox gene involved in a specific type of leukemia, PBX2 acts as a transcriptional activator that binds to the promoter of the TLX1 gene. It is located within the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) on chromosome 6. PBX2 interacts with HOXA9.

PBX2 acts as a transcriptional activator, specifically recognizing and binding to the DNA sequence 5'-ATCAATCAA-3'. In collaboration with MEIS1, it activates the transcription of PF4.

PBX2 is also known as G17, HOX12, PBX2MHC.
