The PAIP1 (poly(A) binding protein interacting protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

Polyadenylate-binding protein-interacting protein 1 (PAIP1) is a protein encoded by the PAIP1 gene in humans. It interacts with poly(A)-binding protein (PABPC1) and the cap-binding complex eIF4A, playing a role in translational initiation and protein biosynthesis. Overexpression of PAIP1 in COS7 cells stimulates translation. Alternative splicing occurs at the PAIP1 locus, resulting in three transcript variants that encode three distinct isoforms.

PAIP1 acts as a coactivator in the regulation of translation initiation of poly(A)-containing mRNAs. Its stimulatory activity on translation is mediated through its interaction with PABPC1. It competes with PAIP2 for binding to PABPC1. Its association with EIF4A and PABPC1 may facilitate interactions between mRNA termini. Additionally, PAIP1 might be involved in translationally coupled mRNA turnover. It is implicated alongside other RNA-binding proteins in the cytoplasmic deadenylation/translational and decay interplay of the FOS mRNA mediated by the major coding-region determinant of instability (mCRD) domain.
