PAFAH1B2

Description

The PAFAH1B2 (platelet activating factor acetylhydrolase 1b catalytic subunit 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

PAFAH1B2 encodes platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase IB subunit beta, an enzyme involved in the hydrolysis of the acetyl group at the sn-2 position of PAF and its analogs. This gene interacts with PAFAH1B1.

PAFAH1B2 encodes the alpha2 subunit of the cytosolic type I platelet-activating factor (PAF) acetylhydrolase (PAF-AH (I)) heterotetrameric enzyme. This subunit plays a catalytic role in hydrolyzing the acetyl group at the sn-2 position of PAF and its analogs. The activity and substrate specificity of PAF-AH (I) are influenced by its subunit composition. PAFAH1B2 homodimers are more efficient at hydrolyzing PAF and AAGPE than AAGPA, while heterodimers with PAFAH1B3 are more efficient at hydrolyzing AAGPA. PAFAH1B2 may also play a role in male germ cell meiosis and early spermiogenesis.

PAFAH1B2 is also known as HEL-S-303.
