PACS2

Description

The PACS2 (phosphofurin acidic cluster sorting protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

PACS2 is a multifunctional sorting protein that plays a crucial role in regulating communication between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and mitochondria. This includes facilitating the close association of mitochondria with the ER and maintaining ER homeostasis. Additionally, in response to apoptotic signals, PACS2 transports the protein BIB to mitochondria, triggering a series of events leading to cell death. These events include the formation of a truncated form of BID within mitochondria, the release of cytochrome c, and the activation of caspase-3. PACS2 may also be involved in the trafficking of ion channels, directing those containing acidic clusters to specific cellular compartments.

PACS2 is also known as DEE66, EIEE66, PACS-2, PACS1L.
