OSBPL6

Description

The OSBPL6 (oxysterol binding protein like 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

OSBPL6 regulates the movement of cholesterol within cells and its removal from cells. It also influences the levels of a specific type of fat molecule (phosphatidylinositol-4-phophate or PI4P) in the membranes of nerve cells. OSBPL6 interacts with other molecules through a specific region called the PH domain. These interactions involve various types of fat molecules including PI4P, phosphatidylinositol-4,5-diphosphate, phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-triphosphate, and phosphatidic acid. OSBPL6 also has a weak interaction with a type of cholesterol called 25-hydroxycholesterol.

OSBPL6 is also known as ORP6.
