OR8B2
Description
The OR8B2 (olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily B member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
The OR8B2 gene in humans encodes for the Olfactory receptor 8B2 protein. This protein interacts with odor molecules in the nose, triggering the perception of smell. It belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that share a 7-transmembrane domain structure. Olfactory receptors are responsible for recognizing and transmitting odor signals through G protein-mediated transduction. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature used for these receptors is independent of other organisms.
This protein acts as an odorant receptor, responsible for detecting and transmitting smell signals to the brain.
OR8B2 is also known as OR11-309, OR11-310.
