OR7G3

Description

The OR7G3 (olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily G member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

OR7G3 is a human gene encoding the olfactory receptor 7G3 protein. This protein, like other olfactory receptors, binds to odorant molecules within the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors are a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), each encoded by a single coding-exon gene. They share a common 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are crucial for recognizing and transducing odorant signals through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and the nomenclature used for these genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

This protein functions as an odorant receptor, detecting and responding to specific scent molecules.

OR7G3 is also known as OST085.
