OR7G2

Description

The OR7G2 (olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily G member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

The OR7G2 gene in humans encodes the olfactory receptor 7G2 protein. This protein plays a role in smell perception by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response. Olfactory receptors belong to the large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), each arising from a single coding-exon gene. These receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, and are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals through G protein-mediated mechanisms. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature for olfactory receptor genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR7G2 is also known as OR19-6, OST260.
